The Frederick Arts Council is partnering with New Spire Arts, the Asian American Center of Frederick, VOLT Restaurant, Platoon 22, and The Arts & The Military to present a contemporary art exhibit highlighting the work of U.S. veterans from Friday, April 13th – Sunday, June 3rd. This exhibition is made possible by support from the Ausherman Family Foundation and the Delaplaine Foundation. The artwork will be displayed in VOLT’s dining room and at New Spire Spaces. Please join us for the opening reception on Friday, April 13th at VOLT from 2-5 pm, where Maryland’s First Lady Yumi Hogan will give the opening remarks and local veteran artists will perform. We look forward to presenting the community with this exhibit highlighting the work and sacrifice of our servicemen and -women as well as the healing and transformative power of the arts. The Tasker’s Chance Garden Club and Celebrate Frederick, Inc. are pleased to announce that the 2018 Beyond the Garden Gates Garden Tour will be held on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20 from 1 – 5 PM in Downtown Frederick & Baker Park. This self-guided tour will feature ten of Frederick’s finest gardens, and is sure to inspire green thumbs. Tickets are available exclusively online at CelebrateFrederick.com. For the past twenty years, hundreds of garden enthusiasts have descended upon Downtown Frederick for the chance to explore the elegant, whimsical and inventive gardens nestled behind the gates of private Frederick homes each spring. A favorite of residents and visitors alike, the Beyond the Garden Gates Garden Tour continues to grow in size and attendance. The annual tour has grown to draw over 800 visitors annually and has raised thousands of dollars for local garden clubs and multiple beautification projects around Frederick. In addition to the the stunning landscapes, visitors are also treated to live plein air artists in many of the gardens, as well as a Hospitality Center where guests are invited to refresh themselves during the tour.

Comedy Night–An evening of stand-up and improv at Sky Stage!
Join the National Museum of Civil War Medicine on Memorial Day weekend for a special living history event featuring the Blue and Gray Hospital Association. Members of the Blue and Gray will be at the museum throughout the day describing the medical history of America’s bloodiest conflict. Dressed in Civil War-attire and armed with period medical equipment, the unit brings a unique perspective to understanding the conflict. Included with Admission to the Museum; FREE for members of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. The Blue and Gray Hospital Association are a Civil War living history organization that includes members from PA, MD, VA, & WV. Founded January 1, 2012, the Blue and Gray participate in a variety of different educational activities which include living histories, historical workshops, field trips, lectures and presentations. The association includes a medical staff, a chaplain, privates, nurses, laundress, seamstresses, and cooks.
