Sailing Through the Winter Solstice Launch Day Party

Saturday, November 19, 8am-12pm

Carroll Creek

Annually, Sailing Through The Winter Solstice begins in November, when a number of boats, transformed through the creative minds of many Frederick friends, set sail on Carroll Creek.

This year – for the first time ever – there’s a “Launch Day” party!

If you’ve ever been curious to see how they get all of those boats in there, now’s your chance to see the magic happen! While you’re watching from Carroll Creek Amphitheater, grab some breakfast from Traditional Authentic Mexican Food truck, listen to some tunes and fun facts about the boats – brought to you by Dapper DJs, and check out one of Driven To Cure‘s GT-Rs!

The fleet includes gaff-rigged ketches, yawls, three-masted schooners and pirate ships, moored with their sail outlines, rigging and decks lit up every day from dusk till dawn. If you can’t imagine it make sure to come by and take a look at the amazing flotilla!

Not only are these boats easy on the eyes, they raise money for good causes! Vote for your favorite and you’ll be donating to a selected charity at the same time. Learn more about the organization at coloronthecreek.com.

Make your giving fun this year! Grab your friends and family and join us for a fun and challenging ride around Frederick! This isn’t your average stroll around town though… you’ll be scavenging food from various grocery stores while competing in the alphabet challenge to win some cool prizes! You’ll have to strategize because you can only collect a limited amount of items from each location. All food and donations go to the Frederick Community Action Agency. So come on out, join the fun and make Cranksgiving your new tradition! As in years past we have some fantastic prizes for our top performers. E-bikes are welcome.

DIFFICULTY: City riding through traffic.

TIPS: Assemble a group of friends (each player will play their own game sheet) and bring a bag, rack, child trailer, or some other way to transport food on your bike. Players will ride to various grocery stores throughout Frederick and buy items to check off their game sheet. The player with the most food items from the game sheet will win prizes! Be sure to bring a bike lock and $ to spend on food. DON’T MISS IT!
