Sumner Crenshaw is an American surrealist and figurative painter. Her art is a minimalist, narrative style imbued with lines and movement. Crenshaw’s paintings pay particular attention to themes of overcoming anxiety and finding strength. In her more surreal pieces, exaggerated figures pull from mythology and folklore to explore ideas of anxiety and struggle. In her lively “Curly Girl” paintings, confident figures strut across the canvas in a show of empowerment and feminism.
The exhibition runs from May 31 through July 2 and is free and open to the public. A reception with the artist will be held from 5-7 PM on June 3. Visit https://www.districtarts.com/sumner-crenshaw for more information including gallery hours.
