The annual Lend a Hand charity art auction is here and bidding is open! Swing by the shop or check out The Muse’s Facebook Album titled Lend a Hand 2020 to see all of this year’s wonderful contributions, and bid by calling us or stopping in to the shop. All art auction proceeds will benefit local conservation nonprofit Stream-Link Education!
Each year, artists Courtney Prahl and Whitney Dahlberg partner with The Muse to come up with a theme around which the public creates small works of art. Canvases needed to create the art are purchased at The Muse, which then exhibits the completed artworks and sells them during a silent auction. The full proceeds from the sale of canvases, as well as the auction, are donated directly to a local non-profit. Each year, the organizers choose a different charity, and this year, they are excited to partner with Frederick environmental non-profit Stream-Link Education for the Lend A Hand auction.
Lisa Baird of Stream-Link explains that the organization’s mission is “to connect community to conservation through educational and meaningful volunteer tree planting experiences to instill environmental stewardship values and improve the health of our rivers and streams”. To bring this mission to life, Stream-Link engages the community in year-round reforestation projects and tree maintenance. On participating in Lend A Hand, Stream-Link’s John Smucker said ” Thisevent is a shining example of people coming together with a common vision. People of many ages, cultures and backgrounds come out to plant trees with us; we know firsthand that if we work together, we can make a lasting impact on the environment, both locally and globally.”
Tying in to the idea of coming together to positively impact the environment, the artwork inspiration theme for this year’s Lend A Hand auction is “Together We Merge Into One World”. All of the completed artwork is now on display at The Muse, and bidding in the silent auction is open! Anyone interested in bidding on a work of art may do so in person at The Muse, located at 19 N. Market St, or by calling 301-663-3632. In addition, Lend a Hand’s organizers have taken steps to enable socially-distant participation for those not comfortable venturing into the store. All available artwork is viewable on The Muse’s Facebook page; participants may view the artwork online, jot down the artwork #’s of their favorites, and call in their bids, all without leaving home!
Bidding is open now through October 3. The Muse will be hosting an auction closing party from 5-9pm during October First Saturday, with representatives both inside and outside of the store to encourage social distancing and assist bidders who would prefer not to come inside. Artists and spectators are invited to come out, see the exhibit, chat with the organizers and Stream-Link’s representatives, and bid on some fantastic art!
