Local artist, Kesra Hoffman is April’s featured artist at NOMA gallery, on the corner of 5th and Market Streets, with a show titled “A Wider Horizon”.
A Wider Horizon is an entirely new body of work exploring of the push and pull of new inspiration from differing landscapes as well as multiple mediums. “Last year landed me in some incredible locales… from the Canadian Rockies in Banff and northern Montana, to down-under in Victoria, South Australia, and New Zealand’s North Island. These trips were on the heels of each other and filled my being with unbelievable beauty.” The journey continues for Hoffman as she delves into each image and extends time spent with the images that rushed past during her travels. All work has been completed since January of 2019 and includes gouache, acrylic, charcoal, photography and mixed media.
Hoffman, a native of Middletown, Maryland, has been painting landscapes of her home and travels since 1996. Growing up in an area rich with farmland and forests cultivated within her a passion of the natural world. As a child, traveling worldwide with her parents instilled a desire to share her excitement for the beauty around her.
Kesra’s mediums of choice are gouache, for works on paper, and acrylic, for paintings on gessoed board or for wall murals. More often than not, she also finds herself choosing charcoal and drawing pencils, which have always been her go-to utensils for the sketchbook, for larger and/or framed work.
The Opening Reception coincides with Frederick’s First Saturday event and runs from 5-9pm, April 6, 2019. All are welcome to join Hoffman for an Artist Talk on April 18, from 7-8pm, as part of NOMA’s regular Third Thursday Artist Talk series.
A Wider Horizon will be on view April 5-28, 2019.
