“Strange Cases and Painful Peculiarities” will take visitors through the darkened galleries of the museum and examine the Civil War’s grizzly side on Friday, October 27th. On this lantern-led tour of Frederick’s most haunted building, visitors will hear ghastly true tales from the Civil War – stories of grave robbers, experimental surgery, battlefield horrors, and more. Night of the Living Art!

October Events

Join us for our first-ever Halloween Bash! The event features live music by ATOMIC MOSQUITOS, dance tunes by DAPPER DJS, burgers and fries by BOXCAR BURGERS as well as other great food and desserts, CASH BAR featuring Flying Dog beer and spirits by McClintock Distillery, and THRILLS & CHILLS! There also will be an art-inspired COSTUME CONTEST with prizes! (Costumes are encouraged but not required.) Tickets are on sale NOW! Advance-$35, Delaplaine Members-$30, Door-$40. AND, all proceeds support Comunity Outreach at the Delaplaine, bringing art education and experiences to underserved audiences and at-risk youth in the community.

Search for the Snallygaster

October Events

In honor of Frederick County’s mythical monster (first sighted in 1909), we are hosting our second Snallygaster event as part of the area’s Halloween activities. According to reports, the Snallygaster had a large horny head, wings, a sharp beak and a long tail. It made shrill screeching noises and laid eggs! Our program is appropriate for children ages 6-10 and will involve a scavenger hunt, games and crafts. Children will be able to take home the crafts that they made. Space is Limited.

Lisa York Featured Artist Show

November Events

Lisa York creates ceramics for special occasion and daily use. The varied surfaces, line, and circle patterns on the work are inspired from travel and time out doors. Currently, York is an instructor, and ceramic technician at Hood College. She studied art at University of North Dakota, Hood College, Houghton College, and apprenticed with Kevin Crowe at Tye River Pottery. She was an artist-in-residence at the Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute in Jingdezhen, China, the International Ceramics Studio in Kecskemet, Hungary, and the Residency for Ceramics, Berlin, Germany.
