In September TAG/The Artists Gallery will feature two solo exhibitions of paintings and photographs: Joanna Morrison’s “Flowers and Figures” and Patricia Stockman’s “Departure.”
Stockman’s photo-based art has been featured in many area shows and venues, but this new show is precisely what its title claims. “Departure,” an ethereal study of time and space, reveals a sense of freedom and anonymity through transparent child-like figures as they meld with their surroundings.
“This series began as a need to step outside of myself, to depart, photographically from my comfort zone,” Stockman says. “I’ve ‘abandoned’ Photoshop. These pieces contain no digital collaging— just the camera and the subject, and a watchful eye for just the right conditions.”
For Stockman these unaltered digital photographs move closer toward the essence of photography: capturing light and movement in a single instant.
In addition to the solo exhibitions, TAG will also have a new show of work by the other members of the gallery. These shows all run from Friday, Sept. 1 through Sunday, Oct. 1, with a reception from 5 to 9pm during First Saturday on Sept. 2.
TAG, at 216 North Market Street, Frederick, is open Friday and Saturday from noon to 9pm and on Sunday from noon to 5pm, or by appointment.
