Print Day @ Frederick Book Arts Center

Once again FBAC will be celebrating Print Day in May!

PDiM is an annual, global celebration of printmaking taking place on the first Saturday in May and is open to all. On that day, tens of thousands of printmakers around the world make prints and share their experiences with others.

We have a variety of ways the community can participate with us:

Print Day in May Display – We will be hosting a printmaking-focused show that will open during our celebration on Saturday.
(Print Artists see below for more details on how your art can be part of the display)

Gyotaku (Fish Prints) – Gyotaku is a traditional form of Japanese art that began over 100 years ago; it was used by fisherman to keep a record of the fish they caught. Non-toxic sumi inks were applied to the fish and then printed onto traditional Japanese rice paper.

Bring your own shirts ($15) or purchase one of ours ($20) and make your very own fish prints (don’t worry, we will be using rubber fish)! *Please bring a clean cotton or poly/cotton blend shirt (any previous stains will heat set into the shirt).*

Demos – Various artists will be doing demos of their preferred style of printmaking (there are so many)!

As always we will have a unique keepsake that members of the community can print on our Platen Letterpress from the 1890s.
