Smokey Bear: 75 Years of Positive Propaganda Art

Join us for programs led by artists, scholars, art historians, and experts. Explore an exciting range of topics rated to the visual arts. A tasting of wine, beer, or a spirit that concerts to the topic is provided.

On August 9, Collector Rick Gibson will take us on a historical journey from the origins of the campaign to stop forest fires through the life and artists of Smokey Bear using selections from his own collection and from the Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum. Explore the power of positive propaganda art as we discover why the campaign was created and how this icon of environmental safety reached audiences around the world. The program is accompanied by a birthday cake celebration for Smokey, and dessert wine pairing provided by Spin The Bottle Wine Company.

Free and open to adults 21 and older.

Guests may bring their lunch or order in advance from Serendipity Market & More, which will deliver the ordered lunches to the Delaplaine. Guests who wish to purchase their lunches must call Serendipity at 301-360-5463 by 10 am on the day of the program.
