Education, as we have known it, no longer exists. Some school systems are currently conducting classes entirely through social media. Others have adopted bifurcated approaches with students alternating in-school learning with online instruction. Colleges and universities are not immune to the struggles of developing a positive, productive and creative approach to teaching in order to maintain the level of education we have come to expect. This can be an especially difficult task with a subject as inherently hands-on as art.

To address this concern, the NOMA Gallery will be presenting an online panel with Andrea McCluskey (Hood College), Wendell Poindexter (Frederick Community College) and Nick Hutchings (Mount St. Mary’s University). The three panelists will discuss how they are dealing with the changes inherent in their approach to teaching art in this environment, the issues they are contending with as their students try to navigate difficult demands, and what they predict the teaching climate will be for both the short and long term.
