Print Day in May at the Frederick Book Arts Center

May 3 @ 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Celebrate Print Day in May with Frederick Book Arts Center!

Print Day in May is an annual, international celebration of printmaking that takes place every first Saturday in May.

This event marks the conclusion of our exhibition from visiting artists Ray Nichols and Jill Cypher in the main gallery. “Lead Graffiti: Printed Slowly and Patiently Via Letterpress” showcases 133 broadsides the pair produced for their Tour de Lead Graffiti project, following each stage and rest day of the Tour de France from 2011 to 2015. In addition, several tables display a variety of other broadsides, experimental calendar pages, printed ephemera, and hand bound books. This is an unforgettable show that you don’t want to miss.

At 2pm, we are honored to present “Advocates, Gazettes, and Hornets: Early Newspapers and Printing in Frederick” by Sean Considine. During this lecture, Sean will use primary sources to explore early Frederick printers, their newspapers, and the content of their publications to learn more about early Frederick and gain insight into the pulse of the people.

Several local artists will demonstrate on a myriad of printing equipment from the 1860s to present day. Visitors can take part in operating our old presses and bring home handmade mementos! A complete schedule of our demonstrations will be available soon.

Free and fun for all ages!
