Downtown Frederick Partnership is proud to announce its recognition as a Green Partner by the Frederick County Division of Energy & Environment for the organization’s ongoing efforts to support Frederick County’s sustainability goals. This recognition is part of a broader initiative to promote sustainability within Frederick County. The Green Partner program celebrates local organizations that demonstrate a commitment to environmental sustainability through actions such as reducing energy consumption, promoting recycling and supporting green business practices.
As part of its eco-friendly initiatives, the Partnership introduced PET recyclable plastic cups for beer, wine, and cocktails, as well as aluminum water bottles, in 2023. These greener alternatives helped the Partnership recycle nearly 830 pounds in 2024—the equivalent of approximately 32,000 plastic cups. These ongoing efforts underscore the Partnership’s dedication to reducing waste, promoting responsible recycling and encouraging local businesses to embrace sustainable practices. “We are honored to be recognized as a Green Partner by the Frederick County Division of Energy & Environment,” said Kara Norman, Executive Director of the Downtown Frederick Partnership. Beyond Alive @ Five event, our historic preservation work is grounded in sustainability, and we are proud to contribute to a more eco-friendly downtown.”
Tiara Lester, Sustainability Program Administrator for the Frederick County Government Division of Energy & Environment, noted, “We are thrilled to celebrate our partnership with Downtown Frederick Partnership! Together, we are driving positive change by fostering a sustainable future, advancing environmental stewardship, and empowering our community to adopt green practices that will create a healthier, more resilient Frederick.”
