Lafayette 200 – Arrival and Welcome Ceremony @ City Hall Park

Kickoff the 200th anniversary weekend for Lafayette’s 1824 visit to Frederick, Maryland by welcoming Lafayette himself as he returns in style. The Marquis de Lafayette will be portrayed by renowned living historian Mark Schneider of Colonial Williamsburg.

Join the fun as the Marquis de Lafayette returns to City Hall Park and be a part of the commemoration with living history during this FREE community event hosted by the Lafayette in Frederick Committee.

This event is part of the Lafayette 200 commemoration, a nationwide celebration commemorating the famous Frenchman’s tour of the United States in 1824-25. Frederick joins dozens of communities in celebrating the legacy of America’s favorite fighting Frenchman, a Revolutionary War hero and human rights activist.

About Mark Schneider: 

Mark Schneider was born and raised in Setauket, New York, to a French mother and an American father and has had a lifelong fascination with French military history, which is how he became interested in the Marquis de Lafayette. After receiving a BA in History from Christopher Newport University, Mark served in the United States Army.

Upon completion of his military service, Mark began working for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation where he has performed in a variety of different areas to include “Nation Builder,” where he takes on the role of the Marquis de Lafayette. As the Marquis, Mark has written, directed, and performed in a wide variety of different theatrical performances that cover highlights of the people and events in Lafayette’s life.

In addition to his role as the Marquis de Lafayette, Mark is also well known for his portrayals of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. He has performed as Napoleon in numerous venues in Europe and the United States.
