Lafayette 200 – Open House @ the Historic McPherson Home

Explore one of Downtown Frederick’s most historic homes during this special event hosted by the Lafayette in Frederick Committee to commemorate the Frenchman’s 1824 visit to Frederick, Maryland.

This special open house will allow registered visitors to step inside the home where Lafayette once stayed in December 1824.

Interact with Lafayette himself, portrayed by Mark Schneider of Colonial Williamsburg.

About Mark Schneider:

Mark Schneider was born and raised in Setauket, New York, to a French mother and an American father and has had a lifelong fascination with French military history, which is how he became interested in the Marquis de Lafayette. After receiving a BA in History from Christopher Newport University, Mark served in the United States Army.

Upon completion of his military service, Mark began working for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation where he has performed in a variety of different areas to include “Nation Builder,” where he takes on the role of the Marquis de Lafayette. As the Marquis, Mark has written, directed, and performed in a wide variety of different theatrical performances that cover highlights of the people and events in Lafayette’s life.

In addition to his role as the Marquis de Lafayette, Mark is also well known for his portrayals of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. He has performed as Napoleon in numerous venues in Europe and the United States.
