Thursday, October 24
Doors will open at 5:30pm and the lecture will run 6:00-7:00pm.
In response to an invitation from Col. John McPherson, the Marquis de Lafayette agreed to stop in Frederick as he made his way to Washington, D.C., to attend a New Year’s Eve ball at the White House. Arriving in the city on the afternoon of December 29, 1824, Lafayette was welcomed by a military parade, speeches, parties, and the well wishes of thousands of visitors who came to see the hero of the American Revolutionary War. Learn about Lafayette’s time in Frederick with this special tour of the Museum of Frederick County History led by our Curator Amy Hunt and Archivist Jody Brumage, and view artifacts associated with the General’s visit and its legacy in our community.
