Join us in Downtown Frederick on Saturday, June 7, for a day full of local art. There will be impressive chalk art and live plein air painting by Frederick-based artists all over town – check the map below!

Hang around until the evening, and you’ll experience our first-ever live art competitions at 6pm and 7:30pm. The artists will find out the theme when the audience does, create for about an hour, and you will decide who gets bragging rights for the next year!

We hope to see you around town for Artopia, but don’t forget, Downtown Frederick is home to over 15 galleries and studio spaces that are always filled with local art.

Starting as early as 8am, 20+ local artists of all ages transform the streets into incredible works of art. It’s a sight you don’t want to miss! See the map below for artist locations.

Not familiar with plein air? Artists capture real life as it happens, painting live scenes right before your eyes. See them throughout downtown starting at 10am.

Award-winning artist Lea Craigie will host a community art project at 331 N Market St from 12pm-6pm. Stop by to add your flair – don’t worry, it’s paint-by-number style.

Experience the creative community of Downtown Frederick as plein air and chalk artists transform the streets into open-air galleries. Watch as talented creators bring their visions to life in real time, using sidewalks and cityscapes as their canvas. Artists will be creating all day long on Saturday, June 7.

Don’t miss the Community Art locations:
• Participatory Community Mural with Lea Craigie-Marshall (331 N Market St)
• Original Chalk Art by Yemi & African Americans of Excellence (Maxwell Ave)

This year, the 31st annual Frederick Festival of the Arts will also take place on June First Saturday from 10am to 5pm, at Carroll Creek Park. Hosted by Frederick Arts Council, the festival features over 100 artists from across the country.
