But more than just Pride, this weekend is about great music too, with brilliant musicians, including those participating in the Frederick Jazz Festival, jamming all through downtown, both indoors and out. And don’t forget about Drag Bingo! You just know that’s gonna be a blast.

John Pizzarelli Trio “Stage and Screen” @ The Weinberg Center

Grammy winning guitarist and vocalist John Pizzarelli brings his new album and tour, Stage & Screen, along with his remarkable new trio, bassist Mike Karn and pianist Isaiah J. Thompson, to explore other sources for the most immortal songs of the past century: the Broadway stage and the silver screen.

The evening will feature fresh versions of great standards such as Where or When, Just in Time, and As Time Goes By, paired with some newer Broadway songs that include I Love Betsy from Honeymoon in Vegas by Jason Robert Brown and Coffee in a Cardboard Cup by Kander and Ebb. Additionally, the event will feature a selection of more recent movie songs like With a Wink and a Smile from Sleepless in SeattleWhen Somebody Loved Me from Toy Story 2 and a rousing suite of songs from Rogers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma.  This program fully encompasses almost every decade from the 20’s to today, providing a musical discovery for audience members, all performed by an impeccable trio that has thrilled the world over with their singular brand of swinging jazz!

Drummer and Author Wes Watkins has carved his place in the musical landscape of the Washington, D.C. area by playing for R&B, Gospel, Rock, Jazz, Neo Soul, Hip- Hop, Blues and legendary Go-Go bands. Born in Baltimore and raised in Severn Md. Watkins, Former Drummer and Musical Director for Grammy Nominated artist Carolyn Malachi, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Walker Redds Project, and his band Got My Own Sound, was inspired by watching and imitating the awe inspiring dexterity of his father’s drum style.

Festival headliner and renowned jazz keyboardist/pianist Marcus Johnson has released more than fifteen Billboard charted CDs, and has the distinction of having his groundbreaking 2008 Billboard Top 20 Contemporary Jazz FLO (For the Love Of) Anthology, which consisted of three distinct CDs — FLO Chill, FLO Romance and FLO Standards – all chart Top 10 on Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts simultaneously.

Main Stage MC Jeff Antoniuk served as an adjunct faculty member at Towson University, as a Master Teaching Artist at Washington Performing Arts for 20 years, and as the Artistic Director of inDepth Jazz Clinics, Jazz Band Masterclass, and the Maryland Summer Jazz adult jazz camp. He has published in numerous magazines and with Alfred Publishing, and is an Eastman Saxophones Artist.
