Seeking a friendly, outgoing part-time bookseller with a passion for children’s books and enthusiasm for working with the general public. The bookseller will work in the store and off-site at events, including author visits and school book fairs. We are building a team that’s diverse in age, gender, race, and class. Responsibilities

  • Build customer loyalty by providing friendly, knowledgeable, and exceptional service to all customers in all situations
  • Work closely with store owner, operations manager, and marketing and events coordinator on implementing successful events for young readers
  • Nurture positive relationships with community organizations, including schools, libraries, and local non-profits
  • Accurately follow store procedures for opening and closing the store; processing sales and special orders; restocking and cleaning

Requirements

  • Avid reader with strong interest in children’s books
  • Availability to work on daytime and evening hours on Thursdays, Fridays, and two weekends a month
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills; basic math and money-handling skills
  • PC-literate (MS Office) and familiarity with retail point-of-sale software
  • Self-motivated; detail-oriented; and able to multi-task, work well under pressure, and adapt quickly to change
  • Reliable transportation
  • Able to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods of time
  • Minimum one year of bookstore, other retail, or library experience
  • College degree preferred
