This weekend is filled with excitement, festivals and even crafty classes! We’re celebrating the end of summer with the first annual Black Frederick Festival, with live entertainment, food trucks and vendors galore. But that’s not the only thing happening downtown this weekend…nope! You’ll find a night market, a delightful handmade earring class, an end of summer bash with vendors, cocktails and food trucks, and to cap it off, the 100th Anniversary Mountain City Elks Parade. Whew! We’re tired just thinking about it. Don’t worry though; we’re going to have a weekend rally so that we can have ALL THE FUN in Downtown Frederick.

Mountain City Elks Lodge 100th Anniversary Parade

Mountain City Elks Lodge #382 and Madame CJ Walker Temple #509 are pleased to announce that the 100th Organization Day Parade will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023. Philanthropist and community leader George B Delaplaine, Jr and Grand Exalted Ruler of Elks of the World (IBOEW), Leonard J Polk Jr will serve as the Grand Marshalls for this historic parade.

The parade, held the 4th Sunday for August  consecutively for over 66 years (with the exception of the pandemic) will feature the dynamic “Symphony of the Soul” – Bowie State University’s (BSU) Marching Band.

The organization is thrilled to announce that Eastern High School’s award-winning marching band will participate in the parade, alongside many additional bands, including Frederick High, Thomas Johnson, Catoctin, Brunswick and Bowie High School. In addition, local step teams, fire departments, color guards and The Road Knights Car Club Inc and Earth Wheels & Fire Motorcycle Club.

The parade route has been expanded this year in celebration of the 100th anniversary, beginning at 7th and Market Streets and running south to W All Saints St, where it will head West to the reviewing stand located across from the Mountain City Elks Lodge.
